About

Nigel Maggs has a background in management and leadership as well as training and education. Having not come from the traditional HR route to training means that Nigel has first hand experience of leading people at a middle and senior level. This invaluable insight is brought to his business training interventions. It allows him to understand the personal requirements of a leader and manager.

nigel_about1.jpgNigel worked for many years as a lecturer and Training Manager devising and presenting training to professionals in and out of the workplace. In devising training programmes and curricula Nigel combines his experience to deliver well structured training that is accessible and relevant while having academic input to back up the contextual nature of the work.

In combining this experience the training provided is interesting and useful. It is relevant to leaders and managers and the situations they find themselves in.

Nigel has worked across the world and seen many leadership styles in action. He uses this experience in his training. It allows him to be open in his approach to ideas generated in the training environment and discuss their merits in context. This open-minded approach allows delegates to share ideas and practices in an air of positive energy.

The inclusion of Emotional Intelligence and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy into the training is seen by Nigel as a must: “The starting point for any good leader is to know themselves and what they bring, both negative and positive, to the situations they find themselves in”. Only by such honesty and self knowledge will they succeed.

The training subjects offered all explore leadership skills in the work context. Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People provides the model for many of the approaches. This is because Covey’s 7 Habits contain the important elements of Emotional Intelligence and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy needed by leaders in the workplace.

All the training undertaken by Nigel Maggs is followed up by reviews to examine the effectiveness of the training and the offer of remedial work to cover areas that have arisen from the training aftermath.

Nigel’s interest in people development is demonstrated by his commitment to getting the training right so that it makes a positive contribution to the delegates as well as their employing organisations. He doesn’t see his input as a one shot solution but as process to build competence and confidence in ability.

For those commissioning training Nigel’s approach is flexible and thorough. All training is tailored to the needs of the delegates and their employing organisations. This may sound slightly controversial but Nigel believes that training should benefit all participants. Training is delivered at times suitable to the delegates’ needs and availability.
